During NCT's 6.2 million dollar Capital Campaign, the groundbreaking ceremony marked a farewell to the yellow and purple cinder block building and a hello to the expanded and updated facility we enjoy today.
The Groundbreaking Ceremony
Thanks to the support of then-Mayor Bill Purcell, NCT's Board of Trustees and so many loyal families and foundations, NCT's Capital Campaign for Renovation was a huge success. The biggest winners...Nashville's children!
Down comes the front of NCT
Once the front of the theatre came down, there was no turning back.
Getting ready for the new seats - 2006
The seats you sit in today weren't always so comfortable. NCT's original configuration had over 100 more seats...and they were a lot closer together.
While it was a little scary to see the original building coming down, it was impossible not to get completely excited about what architect Jim Nickle had in store for the Nation's oldest professional theatre for young audiences!
Here comes the Dragon!
The expanded Nashville Children's Theatre was completed in late 2007 as the finishing touches were added. Here comes our Dragon by Artist Zophia Kneiss.
