Our 2011 inaugural Telling Tales event was a giant hit! So we suggest you make plans to join us for the second one!
Performers at the 2011 event included Mayor Karl Dean, John Seigenthaler, Bobby Bare, Bobby Bare, Jr. & Family, Marcus Hummon, Clementyne Howard, Marshall Chapman, Amy Nelson & Family and Chris Scruggs. Plus many of NCT's favorite actors!
|
The 2011 event featured the work of Shel Silverstein who is best known as an author and illustrator of children's poems, but also wrote nearly 800 songs for the adult market. Nashville was an essential locale in Shel's songwriting. It was here that he became friends with Nashville legends like Bobby Bare, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Harlan Howard, Willie Nelson, and Kris Kristofferson.
Some highlights of Shel's catalog include: "Boy Named Sue", "The Cover of Rolling Stone", "Daddy, What if?", and "Marie Laveau". Because of Shel Silverstein's Nashville roots, along with his timeless children's poems, this was a perfect fit for our community to come together and benefit Nashville Children's Theatre.

Grand Day - Saturday, November 12

The 13th Annual Grand Day was a grand day after all. A packed house laughed and cheered for Junie B. in Jingle Bells, Batman Smells! and then spent the afternoon at the Grand Carnival enjoying games, food and fun!
Grand Day Honorees: Harriet Harms and Karla Cooper Kelso
These long time friends of NCT (as well as most performing arts groups in town) have provided sign-interpretation for more performances than we could begin to count. When our two friends decided to retire at the end of last season, we wanted to find a special way to honor them. A giant party during our 80th Anniversary seems appropriate.
Food was provided by: JONbalaya Catering, Cici's Pizza, Chick-fil-A, Las Paletas, Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams, Bongo Java and Mrs. Grissom's Salads.

Normally, you can find JONbalaya at the Woodbine Farmers Market every Saturday, located near the Coleman Park Community Center, serving from 9 am - noon.
JONbalaya Catering serves a wide range of delicious fare, including BBQ ribs that blew the Scene's mind. |
