Theater Workshop fulfills badge activities #2, #4, #5,
#8, and #10.
Nashville Children's Theatre has selected the Saturday, May 3, 2008 performance of The Reluctant Dragon for the Girl Scout workshop to satisfy requirements for the Junior Theater Badge. Activities will run from 12:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
About The Reluctant Dragon: A brand new production of a Nashville Children’s Theatre masterpiece. This magnificent dragon has a delicious wit, discriminating taste, impeccable manners, the grace of a dancer, the ego of an artist and the soul of a poet. Every eight years or so, the Dragon, a lonely, loyal Boy and a venerable, battle-weary old Saint return to our stage to meet a new generation of children – and to share with them one . . . perfect . . . moment.
Each troop that is registered for the Junior Girl Scout Workshop will receive a copy of the script, a performance guide, and a character analysis in advance of the performance to fulfill badge requirement #2. On the day of the workshop, girls will arrive at the theatre at 12:00 p.m. for a creative drama workshop with NCT's professional teaching artists. Participants will discuss the play, and participate in a series of improvisations and drama activities based on the play and the characters in the play. In small groups, girls will use their improvisations to develop a short play of their own. They will select events to dramatize; they will create characters and experiment with dialogue, movement, voice and gestures. At the end, the groups will present their scenes and fulfill badge requirements #4, #5, and #8.
Following the drama workshop, participants will attend the 2:30 p.m. performance, and satisfy requirement #10. After the show, the girls will be given a backstage tour of the theatre, followed by a question-and-answer session. The actors will be available for autographs before the troops depart at 4:30 p.m.

Nashville Children's Theatre has selected the Saturday, March 29, 2008 performance of Go, Dog. Go! for the Brownie Girl Scout workshop. Activities will run from 12:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
About Go, Dog. Go!: Overflowing with action and canine tom-foolery, this early reading book has been embraced and loved since 1961. On stage, the book bursts to life in an explosion of movement, a kaleidoscope of color and a circus-wagon load of clowning. It’s Red Dog, Blue Dog, Yellow Dog and Green Dog! They bark, they snorkel, they scratch, they drive, they howl at the moon, they live, live, live – on a Ferris wheel that never stops. It’s a big dog party!
