2008 Summer Drama Camps at NCT
May 27 - August 8, 2008

Pre-K through 12th Grade Students
1, 2 & 3 week sessions
Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m

All camps culminate with a sharing for family and friends. Upon completion each student receives a certificate, an NCT t-shirt, and a voucher for a free ticket to an NCT Summer Repertory production! The Theatre Voyagers series explores different material every week allowing campers to take multiple sessions. There will be no camps the week of June 30 – July 4. Early Registration deadine: March 7.

Theatre for Threes (half day camp)

Who: Age Three
A class for you and your Pre-K child to enjoy together. Using song, dance, and movement, this fun class explores the idea of character to connect physical, emotional and verbal learning. Come play with us!

Kinderdrama (half day camp)

Who: Ages Four and Five (includes rising Kindergarteners)
A class for you and your Pre-K child to enjoy together. We will focus on physical, social, and artistic development as we explore creativity, vocalization, and movement through stories, nursery rhymes, improvisation and theatre games.

Gain confidence and stage presence in this introduction to theatre. We channel the energy and imagination of young children through creative dramatics, theatre games and story dramas. Students build theatre skills, work as a group and prepare for future classes.

Students as a class create an original adaptation of a children’s story, myth or legend. They rehearse their parts, design simple scenery and props, and perform their work. Students will learn some of the essentials of acting, discipline and teamwork.

Advanced Theatre Voyagers

Who: Rising grades Four through Eight
Through selected exercises, improvisation and intensive scene work, students focus more deeply on acting and character development. This course will prepare students for other advanced classes.
Pre-requisite: Theatre Voyagers or comparable experience

Youth Performance Ensemble
June 23-27 FULL

Tuition: $195/$180 early registration
Who: Rising grades Seven through Twelve
Students apply the skills learned in earlier classes and develop talents and confidence in the process of rehearsing and performing a short play. This class explores the director/actor relationship and investigates the arc and rhythm of a complete play.
Pre-requisite: Adv. Theatre Voyagers or comparable experience

Theatre Ninjas: Stage Combat 1
May 27-30
Tuition: $195/$180 early registration
Who: Rising grades Five through Twelve
Punch, kick, roll and fall! Learn the basics of stage comat - secrets that fight choreographers and stunt people use to create safe but realistic fights on-stage and on-screen. This class will focus on hand-to-hand combat (no weapons), with an emphasis on safety, laying the foundation for more advanced work in the future.
Pre-requisite: Adv. Theatre Voyagers or comparable experience

Theatre Ninjas: Stage Combat 2
June 23-27
Tuition: $195/$180 early registration
Who: Rising grades Five through Twelve
This exciting class builds on the skills developed in Stage Combat 1. Students will refine the techniques professionals use to stage safe and effective conflicts on stage and screen. Emphasis will be given to the safe use of quarter-staves and found objects. Pre-requisite: Stage Combat 1

Acting 1: Contemporary Scenework
June 16-20 FULL
Tuition: $195/$180 early registration
Who: Rising grades Five through Twelve
During this week-long immersion into the craft of acting, students will learn more sophisticated techniques actors use to create contemporary characters. Students will explore emotional and sensory recall as well as other critical acting methods to give these young actors the tools necessary for more advanced work.
Pre-requisite: Adv. Theatre Voyagers or comparable experience

The Director’s Chair
June 2-6
Tuition: $195/180 early registration
Who: Rising grades Seven through Twelve
Maybe you’re the next Julie Taymor or Steven Spielberg! A director develops a vision for the play, analyzes the show, works with designers, casts the show, creates the stage pictures, and rehearses with the actors. Take your seat in the Director’s chair and find out what it’s like on that side of the action!
Pre-requisite: Youth Perf. Ensemble or comparable experience

Behind the Scenes: Technical Theatre
July 7-11 FULL
Tuition: $225/210 early registration
(tuition in this class includes an individual makeup kit that each student keeps!)
Who: Rising grades Seven through Twelve
Explore all the jobs that happen back stage to make all the magic happen! A true crash course in all things technical, this students will be introduced to the basics of set construction, scenic painting, make-up design and stage management! The work done in this class will support the Actor’s Conservatory production so campers can some back and see their work in action!
Pre-requisite: Adv. Theatre Voyagers or comparable experience

Musical Theatre 1
June 2-13 Two week session FULL
Tuition: $375/$345 early registration
Who: Rising grades Five through Twelve
They say the neon lights are bright on Broadway! In this class, students will have the opportunity to learn about vocal technique, song interpretation and dance from some of Nashville’s finest performers and teachers. Working on songs from some of Broadway’s best musicals will build the confidence and skill of young performers.

Musical Theatre 2: The Rock Musical
June 16-27 Two week session
Tuition: $375/$345 early registration
Who: Rising grades Five through Twelve
This class builds on the skills developed in Musical Theatre 1, and will focus on selections from rock musicals (examples: The Who’s Tommy, RENT, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Hairspray, etc.). In addition to furthering vocal, dance and acting techniques, this class will also explore the style involved in rocking out.
Pre-requisite: Musical Theatre 1 or comparable experience

*Due to Memorial Day, marked sessions have only four days of camp.

Extended Care at NCT
All camps begin at 9:00 am. However, NCT will provide before-hours care from 7:30 am to 9:00 am, Monday-Friday. Space is limited.
Fee: $45 per week (*Four day week: $28 for Tuesday-Friday)

All camps ends at 3:00 pm. However, NCT will provide after-hours care from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm, Monday-Friday. Space is limited.
Fee: $50 per week (*Four day week: $40 for Tuesday-Friday)
Before- and after-hours care consists of supervised, unstructured free-play.

Upon completion, every student receives an NCT T-shirt, and a free ticket to an NCT Summer Repertory production!
